Continuing Education (CE) is an essential component of professional growth and development in the field of psychosexual therapy. It refers to ongoing learning activities that allow practitioners to update their knowledge, refine their skills, and stay current with the latest research, trends, and practices in the field.

For members of the International Association of Psychosexual Therapists (IAPST), engaging in CE is more than just a requirement; it is an opportunity to maintain excellence in therapeutic practice. Whether through workshops, webinars, academic courses, or self-directed study, CE ensures that psychosexual therapists continue to meet the evolving needs of their clients while adhering to the highest professional standards.

WHAT IS CONTINUING EDUCATION?

To maintain certification with IAPST, all Certified Psychosexual Therapists are required to complete a minimum of 5 CE credits each year. These credits ensure that therapists are continually enhancing their knowledge and staying at the forefront of the field.

CE credits can be earned through the following IAPST-approved avenues:

  1. The Monthly Virtual Colloquium: Regular engagement in thought-provoking discussions and presentations by experts in the field.

  2. The Annual Conference: A premier event offering immersive learning experiences, hands-on workshops, and presentations from leading voices in psychosexual therapy.

  3. IAPST Approved CE Providers: Participation in workshops or programs from providers that have been vetted and approved by the IAPST for meeting high standards of professional development.

  4. Personalized One-on-One Training: Tailored training from an IAPST Approved Supervisor, allowing for direct mentorship and skills development.

These varied CE opportunities allow therapists to meet their annual requirements while also choosing formats that best fit their professional needs and learning preferences.

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Maintaining Competency: The landscape of psychosexual therapy is ever-changing, with new research, ethical standards, and therapeutic techniques constantly emerging. Continued Education helps practitioners stay informed and competent in delivering effective treatment.

  2. Meeting Certification and Licensure Requirements: Most professional licenses, certifications, and memberships, including those with IAPST, require regular participation in CE to ensure that therapists are staying updated with their professional obligations.

  3. Enhancing Career Opportunities: Participating in CE can open doors for advanced certifications, specializations, and leadership opportunities within the field, enabling practitioners to diversify their practice and enhance their professional credibility.

  4. Fostering Lifelong Learning: CE promotes a culture of lifelong learning, encouraging therapists to remain curious and committed to professional excellence throughout their careers.
