Nomination Process

A candidate may come to the Executive Board in one of two ways. Any member may nominate someone. Or the Board may identify a candidate itself.

Members may not nominate themselves.

The Office of Membership checks that each candidate is eligible. The Executive Board then considers each eligible candidate and selects a recipient, or declines to select one. An award is conferred only where a candidate merits it.

Nominations are confidential. An unsuccessful candidacy is not disclosed to the candidate, and a member who was considered and not selected is not told.

Where a member of the Executive Board is a candidate, or has a relationship with one that would prevent an independent judgment, they take no part in the decision.

Tell us what you are doing

Members should tell the Association about their work as it happens, using the Share News function on this website. Publications, launches, appointments, awards from other bodies, and any other professional development the membership would want to know about.

Sharing news is not a nomination and does not begin a candidacy. But a contribution nobody has heard of will not be nominated, and the Executive Board cannot identify a candidate whose work it does not know about. Work that is not shared with the Association may remain outside the Board’s awareness, and therefore outside consideration.
