For Supervisees
Individuals providing supervision to candidates pursuing IAPST certification must be registered annually with IAPST. Before beginning supervision, candidates should confirm that their supervisor appears in the Registered Supervisor Verification System.
Candidates must have completed an IAPST-approved sex therapy training program or be actively enrolled in one. Individuals who have not completed or enrolled in an approved training program are not eligible to begin supervision. Any supervision completed before the candidate becomes eligible will not count toward IAPST certification requirements.
In certain circumstances, a candidate may complete their education and supervision concurrently. This requires advance written permission from the director of the candidate's approved training program.
Do supervised hours count toward licensure?
IAPST supervised hours count toward IAPST certification requirements when they are completed with a Registered Supervisor under IAPST supervision standards.
Whether those hours also count toward state, provincial, or national licensure is determined solely by the licensing board or regulatory authority in the jurisdiction where you seek licensure. IAPST does not license therapists and cannot confirm that IAPST supervision will satisfy another body's hour requirements. Verify requirements with your licensing board before beginning supervision.
