IAPST Awards

Recognizing outstanding contribution to psychosexual therapy by members of the Association.

Each year the Association confers awards recognizing outstanding contribution to psychosexual therapy by its members.

The awards are presented at the welcome banquet of the Annual International Symposium on Sex Therapy, before the international community, on the evening the Symposium opens. Fellow Status is conferred at the same banquet.

The awards exist for two reasons. The first is to recognize work that deserves it. The second is to place that work in front of a membership dispersed across many countries, where a contribution made in one place may otherwise never be heard of in another.

An award is a recognition and nothing more. A recipient may say they received it and in what year. It is conferred only where a candidate merits it, and where none does, none is conferred.

The five awards

The fuller grounds are in the Member Awards Policy, Part III.

  • Outstanding Service Award

For commitment, reliability, and service that has supported the mission, operations, and growth of the Association. Much of what sustains a professional body is done quietly and without expectation of notice. This award is for the people who do it.

  • Publication of the Year, Scholarly

For a book, article, or chapter published in the preceding year that advances knowledge, method, or practice in psychosexual therapy.

  • Publication of the Year, General Audience

For a book or comparable work published in the preceding year, written for a general readership, that brings psychosexual therapy to people outside the profession. Writing well for the public is a distinct skill, and the field needs it as much as it needs scholarship.

  • Digital Media Award

For work in audio or visual media that has made a significant contribution to the field. Podcasts, educational video, online programs, social media, and other digital platforms.

  • Lifetime Achievement Award

For a career of distinguished contribution to psychosexual therapy. It is conferred occasionally rather than every year, and only once on any person.

It has been conferred once. Judi Keshet-Orr received the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2025.
